Commercial & Advertising Art
Overview
Students will prepare a portfolio throughout the program to promote their work and talent when they graduate. The major emphasis is on the basic principles of design and elements of art through skill development and exploring different media. Special emphasis is placed on manual as well as computer illustration, layout, composition, and design skills. Students will prepare graphic and advertising projects from the idea stage through to the web/pre-press. The students will be using industry software throughout this course, progressing from basic skills to advanced skills.

Uniform
Students at York Tech are required to wear a uniform. Upper garments (shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) must be purchased through the school's Tech Gear Store. Lower apparel and safety equipment varies by program. Please review the specific uniform requirements for the communications rotation and the Commercial & Advertising Art program.

What to Expect
Students interested in this program will take courses in Commercial & Advertising Art and Communication Technology for the first two school years. After sophomore year, students will apply for full-time entrance into one of the two programs, and they will be accepted based on merit and other criteria. Students who are not approved for their first choice will be assigned to the other program included in the rotation.
