Vocational Certification
All high school level teachers at York Tech must be appropriately certified.  In order to be eligible for hire for a vocational teaching position, a candidate must either hold a PA vocational teaching certificate or have at least four years' of full time paid work experience in the field within the last ten years.  Some technical areas, such as medical professions, require industry licenses or certificates.

Candidates must also be willing to take the required college coursework through Penn State so that they may receive a teaching certificate.  In order to provide a balance between teaching full time and taking courses, the process spans several years.  The coursework is focused on teaching skills, assessment strategies, legal information, etc.  As part of this process, the teacher must also complete an assessment of their occupational skills and take the basic skills knowledge tests in reading, writing, and mathematics.  At the conclusion of the certification coursework, candidates may opt to continue with coursework to complete their bachelor's degree.

Currently, York Tech provides tuition reimbursement to assist with the coursework requirements.
